A 1930 Bungalow in the Colorado Rocky Mountains
Overview: The Fir House is a fully furnished home-away-from-home and is available for holiday, vacation, honeymoon or anniversary, monthly, and corporate rental. The house offers a perfect blend of mountain living with the convenience of city amenities nearby.
With all the charm of a 1930 Bungalow, the Fir House is nestled on a mountainside at 7500 ft. in elevation in a quiet residential area just 5 minutes north of historic downtown Evergreen. The house is set on 1/3 acre and is surrounded by a forest of Fir and Ponderosa pine. The Fir House is approximately 1200 sq. ft. with 2 Bedrooms and 1 Bathroom, and sleeps 3-5 people. See our Photo Gallery.
The cozy 1930 Bungalow style floor plan features a Master Bedroom adjacent to the Living area. French Doors near the Fireplace open to extend the Living Space and offer a pleasant view from and into the bedroom and, on those cold winter nights, bring the warmth of the Fireplace into the bedroom. The Rock Fireplace, which appears to be original, has a Built-in Convection System that works beautifully to throw heat into the interior of the house.
The Living area of this quaint home is very open and includes a Rock Fireplace on one end and a large picture window on the other. Dining and Living areas are joined to create a warm conversational atmosphere. A 26in wall-mounted flat screen TV & Comcast Cable/Internet is provided. The room has a cozy sitting area with large comfortable couches, chairs by the Fireside, a Desk for your laptop, and a Dining area adjacent to the Kitchen. Work at the Desk or enjoy the Fireplace while relaxing with a good book or eating in the Dining area. The picture window opens to the forested mountainside and we rarely pass a day without a visit from deer, elk, or red fox.
The second Bedroom is located in the lower walk-out level and has a Twin-size Bed and a large closet for ample storage. A Trundle Bed is located in the downstairs Family Room, and if you need a crib, an extra sleeping cot, or anything else, feel free to ask. A Laundry Room with full-size Washer and Dryer is also located downstairs.
A wrap-around Deck provides a view over the pine covered valley to the north. The basement is Walk-out and the glass doors have afforded us many a close-up view of the deer that frequent the graveled area under the deck. There is a large private Patio at the back of the house equipped with a Gas Barbeque and outdoor Table and Chairs. Outdoor lights light the areas around the home for safety and comfort. The Driveway of The Fir House is very accommodating with room for an extra car, RV, or boat.
Local Amenities: Local amenities are within 10 minutes and include grocery stores, superstores and convenience stores, and a full range of fast food to elegant dining. The local King Soopers will deliver groceries to your door for a $10 delivery charge. And the SuperWalmart is just up the road if you are shopping for affordable food and household items. There is also a Health Food store in the King Soopers shopping center about 10 minutes from the house.
The Regional Transportation District services the residential areas of Evergreen with a call-n-Ride Shuttle Bus. For $2, the call-n-Ride Shuttle Bus is available to take you to the local grocery store, a doctor appointment, and other locations in the Evergreen area including the Bus stops that connect Evergreen to the greater Denver Metropolitan area to the east - for work or for play, and the ski resorts and gambling towns of Central City and Black Hawk to the west.
Distances, Travel Times, & Things to Do and Places to See: Downtown Denver is only 35 minutes away and Denver International Airport (DIA) is a one hour drive. Vail, America's largest ski mountain, is a one hour and thirty minute trip up the I-70 Canyon to the west. We have maps on-hand that you may take with you with detailed directions to help you find and explore the nearby historic towns and villages of Frisco and Breckenridge (one hour and twenty minutes away), Central City and Black Hawk (a 35 minute drive), Morrison (just 20 minutes away), and Golden (about 25 minutes away). Area maps are also available to help you find your way into the Metro Denver area or to Aspen, Colorado Springs, or Cheyenne.
Use The Fir House as a home-base to see the region or use it as a private retreat where you can fill your day with the peace and quiet of the mountains. From here you can visit the wonderfully quaint historic towns in the area, many within an hour drive, visit the shops and galleries in Evergreen, take the walking tour around Evergreen Lake and walk, hike or bike on the paths and trails of the several Open Space Parks that are within 10 or 15 minutes of the house. Fish at Evergreen Lake and Chatfield Reservoir, or travel to Grand Lake, a 2 hour drive deeper into the mountains. Be sure to visit the art and history museums in Denver and the many attractions of the LoDo district (35 minutes away) for a taste of the local beers, wines and foods. Several Guidebooks to the local sights, mountain parks, scenic drives, hiking trails, resorts, events, festivals, entertainment are available for your use at the Fir House. And follow the links that we have provided on our Local Events and Attractions page for more information.
Be Prepared: Part of the charm of the Colorado Rocky Mountains is our winter Snow Storms. The house is supplied with starter kindling and bundles of logs may be purchased for a few dollars at the local Supermarkets. Be prepared with some extra firewood or a few long-burning composite logs. Due to our mountain setting and our weather, we highly recommend a 4 Wheel Drive Vehicle from October to April.
